Bio
Dr. Kathren McCarty is a board-certified podiatric foot and ankle surgeon with Ortho SA, bringing years of experience and a compassionate approach to patient care. Since 2008, she has provided expert podiatric care to the San Antonio and Schertz communities, earning a reputation for her surgical skill, clinical excellence, and genuine connection with her patients.
A native of Austin, Dr. McCarty came to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s University, where she played both volleyball and softball and was later inducted into the St. Mary’s Hall of Fame for her athletic achievements. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Biological Sciences and Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where she also served as President of the Florida Podiatric Medical Students Association and was elected national President of the American Podiatric Medical Students Association.
Dr. McCarty completed extensive residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she served as Chief Resident of the Orthopedics Department’s Podiatry Division and performed more than 2,000 procedures. Her work has been featured in multiple medical journals and textbooks, and she is a trusted referral source for physicians and surgeons throughout the region.
Dr. McCarty specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions, including ankle sprains and instability, sports injuries, foot and ankle fractures, arthritis, heel pain, bunions, diabetic foot concerns, and other lower-extremity disorders. She is trained in the latest surgical techniques, including minimally invasive procedures, arthroscopy, and advanced fixation methods. Above all, she believes in exploring every non-surgical option before considering surgery, ensuring each patient receives the most appropriate and effective treatment for their needs.
