Medina Healthcare System Auxiliary Names Volunteer of the Year
The Medina Healthcare System Auxiliary is proud to announce Barbara Brice as its 2025 Volunteer of the Year.
Barbara, a retired clinical social worker, moved to Medina County in 2015 after the passing of her husband. Originally from Atlanta, she discovered a love for rural life after settling in Hondo. “I had always lived in large cities,” she shared, “and now if I see two pickup trucks on my county road, I wonder why there’s so much traffic.”
Barbara quickly became involved in the Auxiliary after being recruited by President Esther Johnson. She now volunteers in the hospital gift shop and supports many of the Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts.
“I love working in the gift shop and supporting the hospital,” she said. “It’s a great way to support the community, the patients, and their families. The money we raise directly supports the hospital. The Castroville Clinic x-ray technicians looked at me funny when I told them I helped buy their x-ray equipment. But the Auxiliary did that.”
When she isn’t volunteering, Barbara enjoys spending time with her sons and granddaughter. She says the Auxiliary is not only rewarding, but also fun. “Auxiliary volunteers get a free lunch from the hospital Café on the days they work,” she added. “The food is good and so is the service.”
The Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional service and commitment to Medina Healthcare System and the community it serves.
